Our first 24 hours

In flight and Alajuela

sunny 80 °F

Vegetarianism is alive and well in Miami! After an extended layover in Miami where we scavenged for even one green, orange, or red fruit or vegetable, we resigned ourselves to eating Pizza Hut breadsticks and trail mix for dinner. I guess pizza sauce is technically a vegetable--but try telling that to my bloated carb filled stomach.

We got into the San Jose aiport several hours later than anticipated and we think that our taxi driver who took us to our first hostel was trying to make up for the lost time. I´m glad he was driving and not me--no street signs make can make for a difficult time navigating. None the less, we successfully spent our first 24 hours in a city north of San Jose called Alajuela. Today was just a planning day--exchanging money, trying out our spanglish, and hanging out in cute little community bookstores, parks, and cafes. Tomorrow we try our first attempt at Costa Rican public transportation as we take the bus 4 hours northwest to the community of La Fortuna where we are hoping to check our hot springs, jungles, and a live volcano.
